NFL Draft 2011

May 5, 2011 12:51 am

Of seven Spartans that were eligible in the draft only two were actually drafted: LB Greg Jones (round 6; Giants) and CB Chris L. Rucker (round 6; Colts). I had no doubt these two solid defensive standouts would be drafted.

However, of the other five that weren't drafted, there is one Spartan I'd like to make a case for that he should have been drafted or at least some team should look to bring in as an undrafted free agent: WR Mark Dell. Dell is a solid, tough-minded football player. He is not afraid to go across the middle and make the tough catch and take the big hit.

If I were to compare him to a WR in the NFL it would have to Donald Driver. As a Spartan fan and a Packer fan I have been able to watch both players a lot and these guys are very similar. Their style, the way they just carry themselves, the things that I mentioned earlier about toughness are all similarities they share.

I really feel if some team would have drafted him in the later rounds they would have gotten a steal. Now if someone would pick him up off of free agency again they would have themselves a steal.

Anyway, congratulations to Greg Jones and to Chris L. Rucker (who now gets to possibly practice against Colt WR and former teammate Blair White) on their new teams and good luck.

Drew Stanton

September 27, 2010 7:26 pm

What's the deal with Drew Stanton? Why don't the Lions play him or let him go. He could catch on with another team. Obviously the Lions don't want him. They got that Hill character.

Any insights?

2010 Expectations

August 31, 2010 12:43 pm

v. WMU - W (1-0)
v. Fl Atl - W (2-0)
v. ND - W (3-0)
v. N. Colorado - W (4-0)
v. Wisc - L (4-1, 0-1)
@ UM - W (5-1, 1-1)
v. Illinois - W (6-1, 2-1)
@ NW - W (7-1, 3-1)
@ Iowa - L (7-2, 3-2)
v. Minn - W (8-2, 4-2)
v. Purd - W (9-2, 5-2)
@ PSU - L (9-3, 5-3)

Think we win the games we should win, which is all of them minus Wisc, Iowa, PSU two of which are on the road.  9-3, 5-3 should be good for 4th or 5th in the league depending on how the top 4 temas do against one another and a decent bowl invite, probably top #25 ranking by the end of the season.  My guess is that one or two of them rise above the others (OSU/PSU).  The Spartans should have more discipline this year than even previous Dantonio editions (which have been superior to the previous regimes) after the off-season legal issues.
